Ithaca (WSYR-TV) -- Ithaca officials are taking gun safety seriously after several mass tragedies in recent months.
The Ithaca Police Department and the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department are offering free gun locks to area residents. There’s no limit on how many you can request and you won’t have to show ID.
The locks will be available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ithaca Police Department or the
Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department.
City of Ithaca residents are asked to pick up the gun locks at the
Ithaca Police Department, while all other county residents are asked to pick up the locks at the Sheriff’s Department.
Over the weekend, officials collected more than 100 guns during the county’s first gun buy back program.
