Town of Onondaga residents voting on land-swap deal
Onondaga (WSYR-TV) – Residents in the town of Onondaga are voting today on a controversial land-swap deal between the town and Byrne Dairy.
The owners of the chain want to give up a piece of its land near a senior center. In exchange, the company would receive a town-owned parking lot behind the store at the corner of Route 173 and East Avenue.
The town initially agreed, but then tried to back out when neighbors petitioned for a referendum.
Those in favor say the parking lot is seldom used and not close to the building.
Those opposed say they are concerned that Byrne Dairy will install gas pumps near homes and local churches – bringing in more traffic.
Voting will continue at the Onondaga Town Hall until 8 p.m.
