Trooper Amanda Anna, West Webster Lt. Chiapperini honored at police ceremony in Albany
Albany (WSYR-TV) - New York State Trooper Amanda Anna, who died while on duty nearly a year ago, was honored at a ceremony in Albany Wednesday.
Trooper Anna died as a result of injuries from a one-car crash in the town of Hastings while on duty May 25, 2012.
Lt. Michael J. Chiapperini of the Webster Police Department was also honored. Chiapperini was shot and killed as he responded to a fire call along with the West Webster Fire Department in the Christmas Eve ambush.
Anna and Chiapperini were honored along with 14 other officers – including two others who died in the line of duty – at the annual Police Officers’ Memorial Remembrance Ceremony.
The memorial honors the 1,340 officers who lost their lives in service to communities across New York State.
Officers’ names are placed randomly on the memorial without rank, to signify that all officers' sacrifices are the same.
