CORTLAND, NY (WSYR-TV) - A house fire on Harrington Avenue in Cortland Saturday night sent one person to the hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Around 8:15 p.m., firefighters responded to the burning home with a report that a person was possibly inside.

With flames shooting out of the second story windows, firefighters did a search inside and did not find anyone.  Cortland City Police were able to locate one person on a back porch of the home. Another resident was taken to Cortland Regional Medical Center for minor burns and smoke inhalation.

The home suffered heavy damage in the room where the fire started on the second floor. Other portions of the upper floor have heat and smoke damage and firefighters say repairs are needed before it is safe for the residents to return.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
