SYRACUSE, NY (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse Fire Department is investigating a fire that started at a home in the 100 block of Mark Avenue on Saturday.

The fire started just before 2:00 p.m. on the second floor.

When the first firefighters arrived, Deputy Chief Steve Cavuto said a lot of flames could be seen coming from the second floor and firefighters did not know if anyone was inside.

After an extensive search, they learned that all seven people in the two-family home made it out okay.  The family's pet dog also made it out safely.

Both families are being assisted by the Red Cross.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury but will be okay.

The second floor of the home had the most damage from the flames.  The first floor sustained extensive smoke and water damage.
