USPS looks to save money by leasing delivery vans
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Budget problems at the US Postal Service continue to escalate and the agency is now looking to save money by renting mail delivery vans instead of buying new ones.
The US Postal Service says the cost of replacing the old cars and trucks could set them back $6 billion so leasing will be a good short-term fix.
The cash-strapped agency is facing massive debt.
Last year the postal service defaulted on payments owed to the federal government twice.
It also failed to make annual $5 billion mandated payments earmarked for retiree health benefits.
