, Ruslan Tsarni said he’s ashamed that his brother’s children were implicated in the crime and urged his nephew to surrender to police, according to the Associated Press
Police are still engaged in a massive manhunt across the Boston area for 19-year-old Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
His older brother, 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed in an exchange of gunfire with police on Friday morning.
An MIT police officer was also killed in the incident
A great deal of media speculation has focused on possible connections between the suspects and Islam or militant forms of Islam.
An ethnic Chechen like the two suspects, Tsarni describes himself as a devoted Muslim. He denounced any connection between the young men and their religion.
Asked what might have motivated the young men, Tsarni said, “Being losers. Hatred to those who were able to settle themselves. These are the only reasons, I can imagine of. Anything else to do with Islam, to do with religion, it’s a fraud, it’s a fake."
