Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Sunny days have some Central New Yorkers in a good mood. Doctors say it's because they are getting a healthy dose of Vitamin D, which has been proven to boost your mood and your health.
According to some experts at the Centers for Disease Control, about of a third of people are not getting enough Vitamin D.
Doctors say people should get out for at least 15 minutes a day to soak up some sun.
"Vitamin D is thought to benefit energy, mood, muscle aches and pains if you think about it - plants need sun to survive, plants need the sun and so do we as humans,” said Dr. Kaushal Nanavati with Upstate.
Sun is even more critical in Central New York, where it disappears along with warm weather for long stretches of time during the winter. Doctors say it causes some to develop seasonal depression.
