UTICA, N.Y. (AP) - A 2-year-old girl escaped serious injuries when she fell out a second-story window at her central New York home.

Witnesses say the girl fell through a screened window at a home in Utica around 12:30 p.m. Thursday. According to Robert Liggins, who witnessed the fall, the girl landed on a grassy area, immediately got up and began running around.

Fire officials say the girl was taken to a Utica hospital to be evaluated, but it didn't appear she suffered any serious injuries after falling about 20 feet.

The incident appeared to have been an accident, but authorities say police are investigating whether neglect was a factor.
