East Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- East Syracuse Police say two people are dead after a pickup truck collided with a tree at the intersection of Fly Road and Hartwell Avenue at around 6:30 Friday night.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, witnesses reported that the pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed on Fly Road when 36-year-old Christina Davis of Minoa lost control of the 2006 Dodge pickup as it approached the turn onto Hartwell Avenue.

Davis then drove off the roadway, crashed into a fence and became airborne before crashing into a tree, according to the Sheriff's Office. The truck came to a rest after striking a second tree.

Investigators say Davis and her passenger, 34-year-old Jeffery Hubbard of Syracuse, became trapped inside the truck and the truck’s engine was ripped from the vehicle and thrown into the front of a building at 798 Hartwell Avenue.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene and Hubbard was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation into what caused the accident is ongoing.
