Marathon, Cortland County (WSYR-TV) - It's been exactly a year since Bethanie Dougherty, a mother of three, disappeared under suspicious circumstances.
Her disappearance is still under investigation by the Broome County Sheriff's Department, and her family isn't giving up hope they'll find answers.
At least a hundred friends and relatives attended a vigil held for Bethanie Thursday night. She disappeared from her Killawog home on April 2, 2008; an intense search took place around her home after she disappeared.
Her family offered a reward, but still nothing has come of it.
“There's been no proof or evidence found,” says Bethanie’s father, Terry Curtis. “Sheriff's deputies have interviewed a lot of people, had a lot of tips, a lot of info -- none of it has led anywhere.”
Curtis was on hand Thursday night at the vigil, which was held at one of Dougherty's favorite spots -- the Three Bear Inn in Marathon.
Small paper bags were filled with candles and lit up to light a path back home for Dougherty. Balloons were blown up, each to symbolize a day she’s been missing.
At the end of the vigil, the balloons were let go, as friends and family members watched.
If you have any information about Dougherty’s whereabouts, give the Broome County Sheriff’s Office a call at 607-778-1911.
