NoSports, such a neat story. Seemed like he was such a nice guy. Walter exuded professionalism to the highest degree. By far some of the most moving television footage ever, IMO, was the JFK assassination coverage, that he broadcasted live with CBS. Gives me chills when you hear him announce Kennedy's death.

I too met Walter back in the 1970's on the ferry from Woods Hole to Matha's Vineyard. I was on vacation visiting friends who lived there; I had just completed my undergraduate work at SU and was wearing an SU t-shirt when I met him. He spied my SU shirt and struck up a conversation with me about his daughter being an SU grad. He was a very down to earth man and a very warm person. I had always the greatest respect for him and his reportorial style during the many tragedies that our nation had gone through during the 1960s and the 1970s.
