Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – A scam posing as a legitimate alert service is targeting the elderly, according to Franciscan Companies, an affiliate of St. Joseph’s Hospital.

They say a company calling itself Senior Alertline is posing as Philips Lifeline, a medical service offered through Franciscan Companies.

According to Franciscan Companies, the scammers have been calling a large number of seniors using automated dialing in an effort to gain seniors’ credit card information.

In addition, they created a website designed to imitate Philips Lifeline’s website, including copying the photography and design, as well some phone numbers.

According to Franciscan Companies, the scammers are being investigated by a state Attorney General in the Midwest.
