Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - A weatherization program, paid for with federal stimulus money, is making it possible for families to save more than $1000 a year on their home's energy costs. Since PEACE Incorporated began the weatherization program in Onondaga County last year, they've completed, or are in the process of completing more than 1000 homes at no cost to the families.

The work isn't being done just on single family homes but also on mobile homes and Andy Stone, of the NYS Weatherization Directors Association, says that is where they can sometimes find the biggest energy savings for people who need them most. "If we can reduce their costs by 20, 30 or 40 percent, we could save them $1000 even $1200 a year."

Congressman Dan Maffei says Congress is looking at expanding the weatherization assistance programs to middle class families.

For more information on the program, call PEACE Incorporated at 315-470-3315.
