Rochester, New York (WSYR-TV) - Between January 7 and March 31st, Wegmans is offering many antibiotics for free at all of its 72 stores.
Wegmans will be offering the following antibiotics for free, as long as you have a prescription and a Shopper’s Club Card:
-Amoxicilliin
-Cephalexin
-Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim
-Ciprofloxacin (excluding Ciprofloxacin XR)
-Penicillin VK
-Ampicillin
-Tetracycline
-Erythromycin Stearate and Ethylsuccinate
-Doxycycline Hyclate (capsules)
The free offer covers a 14-day supply. There are no limits on the number of prescriptions that can be filled, and it includes both new prescriptions and refills, according to a Wegmans news release.
“A few months ago we began to lower prices on hundreds of food products in anticipation of lower costs in 2009,” said Wegmans President Colleen Wegman. “There’s been such a tremendous response, it triggered discussion about other ways we could help customers and employees save.”
The store hopes the program will encourage their customers to fill prescriptions there, swapping the loss in revenue for the gain in business.
Wegmans estimates the program save its customers about $1 million; the supermarket chain is launching the program this month because this is when co-pays typically increase.
Wegmans isn't the only place where shoppers can save; K-Mart, Walmart and Rite Aid all offer prescription drug discounts, with Kmart as low as $5 per prescription, Rite Aid starting at just $8.99 for a 30-day supply, and Walmart charging just $4 per prescription.
