Camillus (WSYR-TV) - The West Genesee Wildcats are champions. The high school band returned home from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday with a large trophy to share in show-and-tell.
Days after winning the state championships, the group captured their first national title since 1990.
During the national competition held on Saturday night, the Wildcats faced 57 other bands, earning top honors for their visual performance.
The USBands Class 6 Open National Championship includes bands from New York, New Jersey, and Georgia, according to Bill Davern, the school's director of Fine Arts.
The band was scheduled to return to Central New York early Sunday evening. Their win comes under the leadership of band director Mike Stachnik.
Students from the Liverpool High School band placed 5th in their class of the competition.
