Winter arrives 6:21 AM Friday
The Storm Team has been tracking a low pressure system now entering the Great Lakes. As the low continues to track our way, it will eventually bring us rain, and increasing southeast winds of 15-30 mph. It should be noted that stronger winds are likely over higher elevations, where wind gusts to 50 mph are possible above 1000-1500 feet. Additionally, higher elevations may see a bit of snow or sleet tonight, as the rain arrives. The rain could end as a brief period of snow Friday morning, but little to no accumulation is expected.
Much of Friday will be cloudy, with occasionally gusty southwest winds. The air may cool enough by late Friday, so that a few snow showers could fall. Most of us will likely have to wait until Friday night or Saturday, before temperatures are cold enough for snow.
Gusty northwest winds will bring lake effect snow to central New York Saturday. While most areas should see a minor accumulation of snow of an inch or two, early indications point to the potential of several inches of snow this weekend especially over the higher elevations such as the Tug Hill and hills along/south of Rte. 20. You’ll want to check back for updates as we continue to fine tune the forecast as details may change.
