Witnesses tell police: North Side man died trying to save woman in fire
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse Police have identified two people killed in a fire on North Salina Street on Friday night.
Witnesses told police that the male victim was seen outside the building at 1315 North Salina St., but returned to the apartment he shared with the female victim in order to save her.
Police say 55-year-old Bruce Payne and 59-year-old Pamela Martin were killed in the blaze. They both shared apartment No. 1 in the building.
Police say the victims were killed as a result of both fire and smoke.
They are still investigating what caused the fire.
