SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) -A woman described as emotionally disturbed has been arrested after police in upstate New York say she threw a pot of flaming grease at firefighters responding to a fire in her apartment.

Syracuse police say 24-year-old Fatima Darby was arrested on charges of arson, reckless endangerment, obstructing government administration and endangering the welfare of a child. It wasn't clear if she had a lawyer.

Firefighters responded to the blaze just after 4 p.m. Sunday and forced their way into the apartment. That's when Darby threw the flaming grease, but missed. No firefighters were injured and the fire was extinguished.

Police say Darby was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Her 1-year-old son was removed from the apartment and taken to a hospital for evaluation, but suffered no apparent injuries.
