Liverpool (WSYR-TV) -- A Liverpool woman was able to escape serious injury after a fire at her home Wednesday night.
The fire was reported at around 5:30 p.m. at 4724 Wetzel Road in the Town of Clay.
The woman suffered minor injuries and smoke inhalation, according to the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s Deputies say 41-year-old Tammy Babb, who lived in the lower apartment of the two family house was outside when fire crews arrived on the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw flames coming from the front door and front picture window. It took firefighters about 17 minutes to bring the blaze under control, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Babb was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital where she is currently being treated for smoke inhalation.
The Red Cross is helping relocate the affected residents.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire officials believe the fire started in the kitchen area of the home.
The fire destroyed the home.
