ITHACA, NY (WSYR-TV) – Ithaca Police are investigating a serious crash near the intersection of Route 13 and Third Street on Sunday.

Police say a man was driving an SUV northbound on Route 13 when he crossed into the opposite lane, hitting a pedestrian crossing signal and a car.

The driver of the car, a woman, had to be cut out of the vehicle and flown to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Cayuga Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver of the SUV may have suffered a medical emergency that caused him to cross the center line but the crash is still being investigated.

There were no other people in either of the vehicles.

Neither driver has been identified.

Charges are pending.
