Marcy (WSYR-TV) -- A 45-year-old Marcy man was arrested Monday morning after authorities say he attempted to attack a female neighbor while he was high on bath salts.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, David C. Schrader attempted to attack his neighbor who was leaving for work at around 7:30 a.m.

A deputy on routine patrol observed Schrader who he says ran into the road covered in blood.

An investigation revealed Schrader had chased the victim out of her vehicle and into her garage, where she was able to escape through a door to her home.

Authorities say Schrader didn’t give up there. He continued to try to break down the victim’s door with a broom with no success.

Authorities say the attack was random and the only connection between Schrader and the victim is that they are neighbors.

Investigators say the blood found on Schrader appeared to be from superficial, self-inflicted lacerations.

Schrader is charged with burglary, attempted grand larceny and attempting to steal the victim’s vehicle.

Schrader is currently undergoing treatment at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. When discharged, he will be held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.
