Woman who faked cancer for cash sentenced
Rochester (WSYR-TV) – A Canandaigua woman who faked cancer in order to scam people out of thousands of dollars could face up to five years behind bars.
Melissa Jones was sentenced on Wednesday to 20 to 60 months in prison.
In January, she pleaded guilty to two counts of grand larceny and criminal possession.
Prosecutors say Jones scammed $30,000 from nearly 200 people who tried to help her.
Jones will be back in court for a restitution hearing on May 29.
