Lysander (WSYR-TV) – The YMCA of Greater Syracuse has chosen the location where it wants to build the new Northwest Family YMCA.

Volunteers who lead the organization have chosen a spot on River Road in Lysander.

The 49-acre property will be donated by Gary Pooler, owner of the nearby Timber Banks development, according to the YMCA.

The YMCA will still need regulatory approval before beginning construction.

Volunteers had been working on a Northwest Family YMCA in the Radisson area for almost ten years. A site was chosen in June 2011, but in January the YMCA pulled an application to build there.

Neighbors near the original site proposed in Radisson filed a lawsuit. They said their community is supposed to be private and having a YMCA across the street would bring too much traffic. They also claimed it violated property laws
