Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- FEMA recently released its revised flood plain maps and one of our viewers wants to know why the Carousel Mall isn’t included even though it borders Onondaga Lake and the creek.

The new maps would require more than 1,000 homeowners to start paying for government mandated flood insurance.

FEMA says Carousel appealed the decision in 2005 and the elevation at the mall’s lowest point was found to be two-tenths higher than the standard used to determine if a property is in a flood plain.

The standard is 371.8 feet. The mall is at 372 feet.
