Images: Zoo welcomes newest baby penguin Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Rosamond Gifford Zoo unveiled the newest member of its penguin family on Thursday.
The zoo’s first Humboldt Penguin chick of 2013 – Magdelena - hatched on Feb. 17.
She was born to Frederico and Poquita.
First-grade visitors from All Saints Elementary were given three names to choose from, each reflecting the penguin’s Latin American roots: Elisa, Francisca, and Magdelena.
The children selected Magdelena.
Rosamond Gifford Zoo is home to 34 Humboldt Penguins.
