Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Rosamond Gifford Zoo introduced two new members of its fennec fox family to the public – “Todd” and “Vixey.”

The baby foxes – called kits - were born April 21 to Rhiona and Copper.

The new foxes will likely only spend a little time in the Salt City’s zoo. Once they have matured to between 6 and 9 months, Todd and Vixey are expected to be relocated to a new zoo.

Fennec foxes are one of the smallest species of foxes. They have distinctive bat-like ears that act like natural air conditioners. The species is native to the deserts of North Africe and the Sinai and Arabian peninsulas.
