Milton, N.Y. (AP) — Police believe a mother and her two cubs were the three black bears killed in two separate traffic accidents in upstate New York.

The Saratoga County Sheriff's office says the mother was hit and killed at about 8 p.m. Sunday in Milton.

The cubs were hit not far away just before 11:30 p.m.

Neither driver was injured.

State conservation officials say black bears are increasingly extending their range beyond previous concentrations in the Adirondack and Catskill mountains.
