Rochester, N.Y. – More school districts open their doors to students again Wednesday morning.
In Monroe County, classes are in session at Churchville-Chili, East Irondequoit, East Rochester, Fairport, some of Gates-Chili, Hilton, Spencerport, Webster, West Irondequoit and Wheatland-Chili.
The Rochester City School District also begins classes today, and that includes a brand new one on Ridgeway Avenue in the John Marshall building.
All City High will educate about 1,700 students from schools that are being phased-out -- Jefferson, Marshall, Franklin, Edison and Freddie Thomas.
It is unlike anything the city has offered before: All City High will be open year round, twelve hours a day. The goal of the school is to help make graduation a reality for students at risk of dropping out.
They're students who are behind in their credits and in situations that have prevented them from attending classes.
They may have jobs or are caring for a family member or even their own children.
The idea is to make school more convenient for them.
The school is open from 7 in the morning until seven at night, and will be open all year.
Initially there was concern from some city school board members who feared parents weren't included enough during the planning phases of the school.
But in March, final approval was given by the school board.
