New Yorker Who Saved Toddler Offered Full-Time Job

New York, N.Y. (AP) - An unemployed New Yorker who rescued a toddler from the subway tracks got a full-time job a day after his heroic act.

Delroy Simmonds says he was just doing the right thing when he pulled the boy to safety just before the train arrived.

But his new boss says it showed Simmonds had a lot of character.

Simmonds rescued the child after a gust of wind knocked little David Zamara's stroller off a subway platform in Brooklyn Tuesday afternoon.

Simmonds had been unemployed for more than a year. After his good deed, job offers started pouring in.

He accepted a maintenance job from ABM Janitorial Services at Kennedy Airport. Company project manager Guy Rodriguez says he was honored to hire someone who would risk his life to save someone.
