San Diego, CA/ Sandy Hook, CT. (CNN) - A San Diego woman who grew up in Newtown, Connecticut is selling "I love Newtown" t-shirts to raise money for the victims of Friday's school shooting.

Kerin Sovern says she and a group of friends created the t-shirts years ago while attending Newtown High School.

After the shooting, the group decided to revive the shirt and sell it to help the folks in the town she describes as the perfect place.

She said, “It's just a great town filled with wonderful people. General store, 99-cent bacon, egg and cheese, 2-dollar movie theater, ice cream shop--Everything that you could imagine out of a town you'd want to raise your kids in.'

The t-shirts are being sold for $25 online.

Printing companies are donating the materials so all proceeds go to the families in Newtown.

Already nearly 300 t-shirts have sold, meaning more than $5,000 for the cause.
