Mineola, N.Y. (AP) - The president of the National Grid has apologized for a computer problem that has delayed paychecks for thousands of workers who put in extra hours during Sandy.

President Tom King said in a companywide message he was taking "full responsibility" for the problem, according to Newsday.

He said he expected the problem to be resolved by the end of the month, and that through December 6, a significant number of workers got payroll adjustments.

The company has said the problem stems from a conversion to a new payroll software system in the weeks preceding the October 29 storm that knocked out power to millions in the Northeast.

National Grid contracts with the Long Island Power Authority to operate electric operations in the New York City suburb and parts of Queens.
