Miley Cyrus has paid tribute to the tour bus driver who lost his life in a tragic road accident in the early hours of Friday.

Bill Douglas died when the vehicle he was driving flipped over on a highway in Virginia, killing the 53-year-old and injuring nine of 14 production crew members on board.

The bus was one of four coaches transporting Cyrus' tour crew to Greensboro, North Carolina, where she is due to perform on Sunday. The singer was not traveling with her crew - instead, she had boarded a flight to her native Nashville, Tennessee.

The Hannah Montana star has expressed her grief at the death of "Uncle Bill", who she considered part of her "family".

In a statement posted on Cyrus' website, she says, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bill 'Uncle Bill' Douglas.

"Members of our tour are like members of our family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family in the midst of this tragedy. He will truly be missed."

Cyrus' concert in Greensboro will go ahead as planned.

John Travolta and his family made a rare public appearance at the Florida screening of his new movie Old Dogs to raise money for charity.

Wesley Snipes has appealed his three-year prison sentence on U.S. federal tax charges - insisting the term is "unreasonable."

The Blade: Trinity star was convicted in 2008 of three misdemeanor counts of willful failure to file his income tax return.

According to prosecutors, who pursued the maximum penalty, Snipes made at least $13.8 million for the years in question and owed $2.7 million in back taxes.

Snipes apologized at the time, insisting he was was "unschooled in the science of law and finance".

In a Georgia Court of Appeals on Friday his attorney accused prosecutors of seeking to make an example out of the actor, insisting the sentence "focused too heavily on deterrence".

Snipes' attorney also argued the actor should have been granted a hearing to decide whether his trial should have been in New York instead of Florida, where he has homes.

Snipes remains free on bail and was not present at the Atlanta courthouse.

The three-judge panel did not issue an immediate decision.

Rihanna has laughed off new rumors she's dating 90210 actor Tristan Wilds, insisting she "doesn't even have his number."

The Umbrella hitmaker, 21, has been fighting false claims about her love life since splitting from Chris Brown after their violent bust-up in February.

The latest reports allege Wilds is the new object of her affections - but Rihanna barely knows him.

Media queen Oprah Winfrey held back tears in a televised emotional farewell on Friday - as she confirmed she's quitting her U.S. talk show.

Winfrey told her studio audience she will end The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011, when its 25th season draws to a close.

The talk show queen said "prayer and careful thought" led her to her decision.

She continued, explaining, "I love this show ... this show has been my life and I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye. Twenty five years feels right in my bones and my spirit. It's the perfect number, the exact right time."

News reports suggest Winfrey, 55, will to start up a new talk show on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, which is projected to debut in 2011. However, she has yet to confirm those rumors.

Kelly Osbourne has no intention of walking down the aisle with fiance Luke Worrell until he is 21 - so her beau can legally drink alcohol at their wedding party.

The pair announced its engagement last year after just a few months of dating.

According to emergency medical officials, one person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Cyrus was en route to her planned show in Greensboro, North Carolina, traveling as part of a four-vehicle caravan which included the bus that crashed. According to TMZ.com, she will will forge ahead with Sunday's concert, despite the tragedy.

An employee at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex says, "The show is going on as scheduled."

Steven Tyler has opened up about his rumored hiatus from Aerosmith - he's taking some time off to write a book while his injured shoulder heals.

The group has been thrown into chaos in recent weeks, with Tyler's baffled bandmates admitting he's kept them in the dark over whether he plans to continue as their frontman.

Guitarist Joe Perry recently claimed Tyler is planing to take a "two-year" hiatus, leaving the band in turmoil.

But a spokesperson for the frontman is adamant Tyler is just taking a quick break while he recovers from a shoulder injury, which he sustained after falling off stage at a gig in August.

The rep adds that Tyler is using his time productively - he is writing his autobiography, telling People.com, "He's concentrating on his book right now while his shoulder heals."

Singer Jordin Sparks is recovering after emergency surgery to have her appendix removed.

The 19-year-old American Idol winner was slated to perform in Australia, with Australian Idol Guy Sebastian on Sunday, but was forced to scrap her appearance she was hospitalized with acute appendicitis on Wednesday night.

The singer logged on to her Twitter page from the recovery room on Thursday, posting a picture of herself and assuring fans she plans to be back on her feet in "the next week or so".

She added: "Feeling a little better but very sore. Thank you so much for your thoughts & prayers. It means so much & it's so powerful."

Brad Pitt is set to battle extraterrestrials in the Bermuda Triangle, after securing the movie rights to a new video game.

Pitt's Plan B production company has signed a deal with gaming company Capcom to take Dark Void to the big screen.

The actor intends to take the lead role of a pilot who crash lands in a parallel world where he must fight off alien invaders.

The game Dark Void is due to launch in January, with the movie scheduled to follow, reports Daily Variety.

Hugh Jackman has healed the long running rift with his mom after she walked out on him as a kid - the pair has been spending time together in New York.

Jackman's dad was left to look after him and his four siblings after his mother, Grace, moved out of the family home when he was eight years old.

Grace and her estranged husband, Chris, later agreed Jackman's sisters would be raised in their mom's native England, while Jackman and his two brothers stayed in Australia with their father.

Jackman has since admitted he doesn't blame his mom for deserting them - because she was suffering from undiagnosed postpartum depression.

Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are facing a lawsuit from a woman who alleges she was injured by the couple's dog.

Flight attendant Lisa Wilson has filed papers at New York's Brooklyn Federal Court claiming she suffered a serious back injury after the couple's German Shepherd, Floyd, bumped into her legs during a flight and knocked her to the ground.

Wilson alleges the 2006 incident could have been prevented if the dog had been given better training and she's hired an animal behaviour expert in a bid to back up her claims.

Wilson's lawyer, William Cafaro, tells the New York Daily News, "The dog was obviously dangerous and we will prove at trial that it was only a matter of time before he hurt someone."

The publication reports that Joseph Varvaro, a lawyer for Lopez and Anthony, has hired his own animal behaviour expert to evaluate Floyd.

Actress Sadie Frost is set to lift the lid on her marriage to Jude Law - she's preparing to release an autobiography.

Former Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek has filed for divorce from his wife Heather McComb, five months after the couple split.

The pair wed in 2003 and have no children.

Redmond O'Neal has blamed his lack of progress in his ongoing drug treatment on the death of his mother Farrah Fawcett - because he is still reeling from the tragedy.

Ryan O'Neal's son moved into a rehab facility in September to continue his battle against substance abuse, after serving time behind bars in connection to a January 2008 drug arrest and a probation violation.

He has previously insisted he is doing "very well" in his bid to kick his addictions since Fawcett's death from cancer in June.

But at a progress hearing in Los Angeles on Thursday he was criticized by Judge Michael Tynan who told the court, "I thought this kid wanted to do something. He isn't working as hard as he can."

The 24 year old responded by telling Judge Tynan he has been sober for nine months, but admitted, "I have been holding back. I have been adjusting and still dealing with the death of my mother."

A representative from Impact, the center where he is in residential treatment, revealed the reason behind O'Neal's lack of participation: "He did a massive amount of drugs for years and that stunted his emotional growth, and he is just coming out of that."

Judge Tynan ordered O'Neal back to court on December 2, telling him: "The report better be glowing, or there will be consequences."

The star's lawyer insisted the hearing went well, telling RadarOnline.com, "The progress report was good. Redmond is doing well, but as Judge Tynan pointed out, he needs to step it up," while O'Neal added, "I'm OK. I'm going to do better."

Actor Eddie Cibrian has launched a $1 million defamation lawsuit against magazine Life & Style over an article suggesting he's cheating on girlfriend LeAnn Rimes with a woman claiming to be an ex-mistress.

Cibrian threatened the legal action earlier this month and now he's following through, according to TMZ.com.

Aspiring actress Scheana Marie Jancan recently told the publication Cibrian is a serial cheat who will sleep with women behind Rimes's back.

Jancan warned Rimes, who ended her own marriage to date Cibrian, that Cibrian will dump her after he has had his fun.

And in October, the publication ran a story suggesting Jancan and Cibrian were dating again behind Rimes's back.

A statement from the star's representative says, "Unfortunately Life & Style magazine has chosen to go out with a story filled with inaccuracies and deceitful lies, presumably to titillate sales, but clearly resulting in harm to Eddie Cibrian and others."

In the suit, lawyers claim the articles published by the magazine "falsely portray Eddie as being unfaithful to Ms. Rimes, as currently being in a romantic with Ms. Jancan, and as having abandoned his children."

Cibrian split from his wife Brandi Glanville earlier this year when he started dating country star Rimes.
