Recap: Rutgers vs. Villanova
Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - The duo of JayVaughn Pinkston and Maalik Wayns registered 18 points apiece to lead the Villanova Wildcats to a 77-71 victory over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in a Big East Conference battle at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.
Dominic Cheek added 15 points in the win for Villanova (12-17, 5-12 Big East), while Mouphtaou Yarou finished with a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Dane Miller scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace Rutgers (13-17, 5-12) in the loss, while Myles Mack tallied 15 points. Eli Carter logged 14 points for the Scarlet Knights, and Jerome Seagears finished with 11 points to go with seven assists.
The Wildcats shot at a blistering 69.2 percent clip during the opening stanza to earn a commanding 48-32 halftime lead.
Rutgers chipped away during the second stanza and actually outscored the Wildcats during the frame, who shot just 27.3 percent from the field. However, a 15-of-21 effort at the foul line during the final 20 minutes helped Villanova to preserve the six-point win.
The Wildcats hit 10-of-18 from beyond the arc during the meeting, while the Scarlet Knights shot just 5-of-21 from three-point range.Game Notes
