Recap: Siena vs. Canisius
Albany, NY (Sports Network) - OD Anosike registered yet another double-double with his 16 points and 16 rebounds as the Siena Saints posted an 86-75 win over Canisius in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Times Union Center.
Leading the scoring attack for the Saints (13-16, 8-10 MAAC) was Kyle Downey with a game-high 28 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists, followed by Evan Hymes and Rob Poole with 12 and 10 points, respectively, which means Siena enters the MAAC Tournament as the sixth seed.
The Golden Griffins (5-24, 1-17), the last-place team in the 10-team league, were paced by Harold Washington with his 27 points, followed by Alshwan Hymes with 19 on just 8-of-22 shooting from the floor. Gaby Belardo tacked on 13 points and Reggie Groves 12 to go along with eight boards, five assists and three steals off the bench for the visitors in their second straight setback.
Siena took control in the first half thanks to not only 50 percent shooting from the floor, but also 50 percent (7-of-14) behind the three-point line as well, en route to a 46-29 edge at the break.
In the second half Canisius closed the gap by making good on 56.7 percent from the field, but it was too little, too late as the hosts claimed the win.
The Saints outscored the Griffs at the free-throw line, 21-13, and also won the rebounding battle, 45-29.Game Notes
