Recap: Western Carolina vs. Appalachian St
Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Trey Sumler scored a career-high 27 points as the Western Carolina Catamounts concluded the regular season by defeating the Appalachian State Mountaineers 83-75 in Southern Conference action at the Ramsey Center.
Sumler also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists for Western Carolina (14-17, 8-10 SoCon), which extended its winning streak to four games. Harouna Mutombo added 16 points for the Catamounts.
For Appalachian State (12-17, 7-11), Andre Williamson scored 15 points and Nathan Healy and Tab Hamilton netted 11 apiece. G.J. Vilarino added 10 points for the Mountaineers, who have lost back-to-back games.
Appalachian State outshot Western Carolina from the field in the first half 52 percent to 39.4 percent, but both teams made the same amount of shots (13) and the stanza ended in a 34-34 tie.
The Catamounts took control after the break by shooting 58.1 percent from the floor. They led by as many as 15 in the second half.
Appalachian State turned the ball over 20 times, which Western Carolina converted into 24 points.Game Notes
