Recap: Western Carolina vs. Samford
Cullowhee, NC (Sports Network) - Keaton Cole posted a game-high 28 points to lead the Western Carolina Catamounts to a 79-77 victory over the Samford Bulldogs in a Southern Conference battle at the Ramsey Center.
Harouna Mutombo added 19 points and collected seven rebounds in the win for Western Carolina (13-17, 7-10 SoCon), while Brandon Boggs tallied 14 points. Trey Sumler got into the mix as well, and finished with 12 points to go with eight boards and 10 assists for the Catamounts.
Drew Windler scored 27 points to lead the way for Samford (11-17, 8-9), which also got 13 points apiece from Tyler Hood and Raijon Kelly.
A 12-for-23 effort from beyond the arc during the opening 20 minutes of play earned the Catamounts a 41-35 halftime edge.
The Bulldogs shot at a blistering 56.5 percent clip during the second stanza, and pulled to within 77-76 with just seven seconds remaining in the contest. However, Sumler was fouled with four ticks on the clock and made good on both attempts to help ice the game for WCU.
The Catamounts went 17-of-33 from long range overall during the meeting.Game Notes
