Charleston, SC (Sports Network) - Andrew Lawrence led the way with 16 points as the College of Charleston Cougars defeated the Appalachian State Mountaineers, 72-59, in a Southern Conference clash at TD Arena
For the Cougars (15-7, 7-3 SoCon), Anthony Thomas added 14 points, while Anthony Stitt and Theo Johnson each chipped in 10 points.
Tevin Baskin led the Mountaineers (8-12, 4-5) with 16 points and Jay Canty scored 11 points.
ASU shot 45.2 percent from the field in the first half, including 2-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc, as it took a slim lead at halftime, 35-33. Charleston was held to just 40 percent shooting and made only 2-of-12 from 3-point range.
The Cougars used a 16-5 run early in the second half to turn a four-point deficit into a seven-point lead. They never trailed again, holding the Mountaineers to just 24 points in the second half on a lowly 30.3 percent from the field.
The Cougars held a 17-7 scoring advantage on the free-throw line.
