Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse University football coach Doug Marrone announced on Friday that two players who are facing charges after an alleged incident involving police will miss out on a significant amount of playing time in upcoming games, including the Pinstripe Bowl.

Both Marquis Spruill and Steven Rene were arrested after a midnight incident in which police say they were drunk and disorderly early in the month.

Rene was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Spruill was charged with disorderly conduct and second degree harassment.

Spruill was cleared to play, while Rene will be sidelined due to injury.

Marrone says, however, that Spruill will “not play in a significant portion of the upcoming bowl game and Rene will not play a significant portion of the next game in which he is medically cleared to participate.”

The coach did not say which portion the players would miss or whether that portion would be in terms of minutes or number of plays.
