Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Two former Syracuse University basketball standouts have had their Celtics’ green jerseys exchanged for lobster red – at least for the time being.

Boston draft selections Fab Melo and Kris Joseph were assigned to their minor league affiliate the Maine Red Claws on Wednesday.

Melo was  selected in the first round, 22nd overall, by Boston in the 2012 NBA Draft and appeared in eight preseason games with the Celtics, scoring two points and grabbing ten rebounds in 47 minutes.

Joseph  was selected in the second round, 51st overall, by the Celtics in the 2012 NBA Draft and appeared in one preseason game for Boston.

Joseph was named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top 50 list and started every game last season.

He earned 1st team all-Big East honors this past year, after leading the Orange with 13.5 points per game, while averaging 4.7 rebounds a contest.

Both players were expected to join the team on Wednesday.

The Portland, Maine, based Developmental League team is scheduled to tip off against the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Nov. 30.
