From press releases -- Michael Gbinije, a freshman at Duke, has announced his decision to transfer to Syracuse University and play basketball, according to Orange head coach Jim Boeheim. Gbinije will sit out next season as a transfer but then have three years of eligibility.
A 6-7 swingman from Benedictine High School in Virginia, Gbinije was coached by Syracuse assistant coach Adrian Autry AAU basketball several years ago. Bginife played with Triple Threat and Team Takeover. Gbinije averaged 25.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game as a senior at Benedictine and helped his squad to a 26-5 record. He was selected to play in the 2011 Jordan Brand Classic All-America game, a contest that also featured current SU players Rakeem Christmas and Michael Carter-Williams.
Gbinije also played in the 2010 Nike Global Challenge with SU freshman Trevor Cooney.
He played in 19 games as a freshman at Duke, averaging 1.7 points per game.
