Syracuse (WSYR-TV/SU) – SU women’s basketball player Kayla Alexander scored her 2,000th career point in their BIG EAST semi-final game against Connecticut Monday night. That makes her the first ever in Syracuse history to reach such a milestone.

And while the No. 24/21 SU women’s basketball team was eliminated from the 2013 BIG EAST Tournament after falling to No. 2 Connecticut 64-51, the team will likely earn a bid to the NCAA tournament. That announcement will come on Monday, March 18 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.

Senior Elashier hall scored nine points and had five rebounds and led the team in steals. Freshman Brianna Butler also had a great game with a recorded eight points and two rebounds.

The Orange made seven 3 pointers and forced 17 Connecticut turnovers.

However, the Huskies had four players score in double figures – one of them being Cicero-North Syracuse graduate Breanna Stewart, as well as Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis. Both recorded 14 points during the game.

Kelly Farris led the Huskiest in rebounding, with 12.

Connecticut will face Notre Dame in the championship game on Tuesday. The Irish advanced following an 83-59 win against Louisville.
