Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse University men’s basketball team won its final Big East Conference home game against DePaul 78-57.
James Southerland led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds.
The team said goodbye to its celebrated seniors Brandon Triche and James Southerland.
The Orange finally broke a three-game losing streak that saw them fall to No. 17 in the Associated Press poll and No. 16 in the coaches poll.
A Jamesville-DeWitt High School product, Triche has been a cornerstone of the Orange program for four years.
Triche has been among the team’s scoring leaders throughout the 2012-13 campaign. He’s currently averaging 14.2 points per game.
Southerland’s senior season highlight was a spectacular
35-point performance in the Orange’s 91-82 win over Arkansas in the Big East/SEC Challenge that included nine 3-point goals.
The low-point of his season was a six-game hiatus from the team midseason due to
eligibility issues.
Along with the two senior starters, the program will say goodbye to seniors Griffin Hoffmann and Matt Lyde-Cajuste.
SU’s regular season comes to a close Saturday when the team travels to Georgetown for its final game as a member of the Big East Conference.
