Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- The SU men’s lacrosse team took a tumble in the coaches poll Monday, dropping from No. 13 to No. 18 after Sunday’s double overtime loss to Albany at the Dome.

It’s the first time in the John Desko era that the Orange has failed to win its season opener. Offensively, the coach had to be encouraged by what he saw – with 10 different guys tallying goals for Syracuse, but defensively it was another story.

Goalie Bobby Wardwell allowed 16 goals, while making just seven saves.

Brother’s Miles and Lyle Thompson, of Albany, scored in the second overtime with just 3:03 left to play, bringing the Great Danes to a 16-15 victory Sunday.

SU has never before lost to the Albany Great Danes.
