Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – The Syracuse University men’s basketball team is on its way to Atlanta for the program’s fifth Final Four appearance.
The Orange has advanced to the college game’s signature championship event five times in program history – four times during the Jim Boeheim era.
SU won the national championship once, in 2003.
The lack of a campus pep rally was a notable omission from the Tuesday departure time.
Nevertheless, the city of Syracuse is trying to help the team have a home away from home by providing travel opportunities from the Salt City to Atlanta.
As demand for tickets sent prices soaring, Mayor Stephanie Miner’s office announced that Delta Air Lines would add more flights to accommodate fans heading down to the game.
The mayor’s office said the additional flights would be available for booking on Delta’s website
“We are excited to see our home team headed to Atlanta for the Final Four,” the mayor said in a written release. “We appreciate Delta recognizing the importance of this game and the potential for expanding the ability of Central New Yorkers to travel down and cheer on the Orange.”
The Orange will play Michigan
on Saturday on CBS. Tip-off time is set for 8:49 p.m.
The Wolverines are slated to leave on Wednesday, along with Wichita State.
The fourth team, Louisville, is leaving today.
