Syracuse (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse University confirmed on Thursday that it will retire Carmelo Anthony’s jersey in February.

The school has set the date for a special event as Feb. 23 when the Orange will host rival Georgetown – which will also be the final Big East Conference meeting between the two teams at the Carrier Dome.

The current New York Knick was a Sporting News first-team All-American selection for the 2002-03 season.

He was the Final Four Most Outstanding Player in 2003 when the Orange won the National Championship.

Anthony, who was the No. 3 overall selection by the Denver Nuggets in the 2003 NBA Draft, has donated millions to Syracuse University.

Anthony’s jersey will join those of Dave Bing, Derrick Coleman, Sherman Douglas, Billy Gabor, Vic Hanson, Billy Owens, Wilmeth Sadat-Singh, Rony Seikaly, and Dwayne “Pearl” Washington, who have been previously honored.
