Bristol, Conn. (WSYR-TV) – Syracuse University women’s basketball player Kayla Alexander will soon ply her trade at the pro level.
On Monday, the Orange’s all-time leading scorer was selected eight overall in the WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars.
Alexander is just the second SU player to be drafted into the WNBA.
SU's Beth Record was selected in the fourth round in 2001 by the Los Angeles Sparks.
In addition to becoming the program’s leading scorer, Alexander was the first Orange player to surpass 2000 career points.
She’s also the program’s all-time leader in blocks, field goals, and free throws made.
An Ontario native, she led the Orange to a 24-8 record, the best winning percentage in a season for the program, and to its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance.
