Syracuse (WSYR-TV) -- James Southerland still remains ineligible to play for the 7th ranked Orange.

The senior swingman can practice with the team, but can’t participate in any games – at least for now.

Syracuse.com basketball writer Mike Waters told NewsChannel 9’s Steve Infanti on Thursday’s edition of “Rewind and Reload” that Southerland’s suspension is related to academics – more specifically it has to do with the NCAA investigation the academic records of the Syracuse men’s basketball team.

Somewhere along the way, the NCAA found a red flag in the case of Southerland.

Orange assistant coach Gerry McNamara was also on Rewind and Reload. He says the team hopes to resolve the issue with Southerland by season’s end.

In the meantime, they’re doing their best to move on without him.
