Syracuse Orange kickoff preseason
Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Scott Shafer held his first official preseason practice as head coach of Syracuse University football.
The Orange kicked off training camp at Manley Field House Complex in Syracuse on Monday.
It was the first time Oklahoma University transfer Drew Allen threw a football in a Syracuse uniform as he competes with Terrell Hunt for the starting quarterback job.
While that storyline will definitely be closely watched in the upcoming weeks - to Shafer - it was all about getting things started and setting the tone for all that lies ahead.
“It’s always fun when you open up camp because the kids are fired up and ready to go. Nothing has really changed except we have some new faces out there. But nothing has changed as far as our opinion of who’s going to be our players because we haven’t had an opportunity to work with them. So for me, it’s just getting out there and getting started, kicking it off and they’ll be fired up to be running around, but we’ll be playing a little fake football for a few days because we won’t have the pads on yet,” said Shafer.
Fans are invited to get their first look at the team at a public practice on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
