Three SU football players injured

Syracuse (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse University starting free safety Phillip Thomas, offensive guard Nick Lepak, and linebacker Zack McCarrell sustained injuries during this past week during practice.

Thomas sustained a fractured jaw during practice on August 7 and had surgery on August 8 to repair the fracture. He will return to non-contact drills over the next few days. A junior from Miami, Fla., Thomas has played in 24 games for the Orange, including 16 starts. He has 121 career tackles and three interceptions.

Lepak, a senior from Auburn, sustained a concussion on August 8 and will be out of activity until further notice. He has played in 26 games for the Orange.

McCarrell sustained a hamstring strain on August 6 and will be out activity until further notice. The Orlando, Fla. native made the team as a walk-on prior to the 2010 season.
